PVD Coatings
PVD coatings are an essential process to reducing abrasion, corrosion and friction, among other wear situations, in tools and components for a wide range of industries. Our coatings effectively improve product functionality, life and performance while decreasing tool downtime. This improved tool and manufacturing process performance leads to overall increased customers productivity and profitability.
Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) describes a group of vacuum coating processes. Components and tools are coated using arc vapor deposition with temperatures greater than 450°C. A strong bond between the coating and the substrate is formed without losing hardness, creating a surface protection in the microstructure of the base material. Some of our PVD coatings are biocompatible and/or have food safe grade.
DLC Coatings
DLC coatings – short for diamond like carbon – increase the hardness of tools through tribological properties resulting in protection against friction in many applications. DLC coatings are a subcategory of PVD coatings that are extremely hard and low in friction.
DLC coatings are made for the most extreme wear conditions and high sliding speeds and can be used even without lubrication. They offer protection against abrasion, tribo-oxidation and adhesive wear while also allowing for high surface pressures. Some of our DLC coatings are biocompatible and/or have food safe grade.

PVD Coatings for Your Industry
Manufacturing
Our state-of-the-art Physical Vapor Depositing coatings for manufacturing offer a two-stage process that begins with an initial hardening of the surface using plasma/ion nitriding, followed by the application of a mono-layered PVD coating. This treatment creates a hard, wear resistant barrier that reduces or eliminates the effects of soldering, erosion and wear on manufactured products. Reduced wear on tools means increased productivity and decreased manufacturing costs.
Aerospace
voestalpine eifeler Coatings improve performance, safety and fuel efficiency for aerospace engines. Our coatings also protect turbine components and combustors from extreme temperatures to increase operational efficiency.
Automotive
voestalpine eifeler Coatings improve manufacturing productivity while also increasing vehicle operating efficiency for the automotive industry. This is accomplished by PVD coatings that improve wear resistance and increase the life of automobile components.
Medical
voestalpine eifeler Coatings is an industry leader in PVD coatings for medical devices, specifically in the orthopedic industry. These coatings work to help prevent infection and reduce friction for better patient outcomes. Our PVD coatings are also useful in spinal, dental, trauma and quality assurance departments within the medical industry.
Cutting tools
PVD coatings protect cutting tools form premature edge wear, thermal failure and edge build-up. This is achieved through reduced friction and abrasion protection. Longer tool life means reduced manufacturing costs.
Our philosophy is based on a few principles:
